G.R. N’Namdi Gallery introduces the work of Texas bred, London-based Angelbert Metoyer to Chicago, IL. Combining themes of Metoyer’s and America’s mixed-cultural past, universalism, and connection, the exhibition features 13 pieces, including four drawings, three paintings, four glass pieces from his M-Window Series, and two short films that will be projected out into the street. This exhibition is part of Metoyer's War-Beau project – a conceptual mother-load comprising thirteen exhibitions that seek to ask fundamental questions about what it means to be alive and considers the relationship between war and beauty. G.R. N’Namdi Gallery will hold an opening reception on Friday, September 10, 2010, 6:00-9:00 PM at 110 N. Peoria St, Chicago, Illinois 60607. There will also be an artist lecture the following day, on Saturday, September 11, at 2:00 PM at the same location.

The exhibition entitled “Icon Execution” presents four drawings of equestrian monuments that create a profound statement about the spectre of racism at the heart of American Society. The largest piece in the show, Clouds, is made from earth’s natural wastes and depicts the four horses of the Apocalypse, demonstrating that waste and decay can form beauty. “Icon Execution” will also present works from Metoyer’s M-Window Series. Metoyer explains, "Referencing ancient and modern mythologies from all over the world, I explore memory, moment and social changes in human history, examining scientific and philosophical questions about multi-dimensionality, teleportation and M theory (quantum concepts)." This series is made of layers of still images embedded in glass that present the viewer that time only exists as a personal psychological experience contained by the parameter’s of subjective
perception. Also, two short films will be presented depicting global footage of Metoyer’s travels providing insight to his international experiences.

Angelbert Metoyer was born on July 7, 1977 in New Orleans, LA to a Creole family. Metoyer attended the Atlanta College of Art and Design, now present-day Savannah College of Art and Design, where his art making started to grow and prosper. Metoyer’s exhibitions include the Venice Biennale of Art, Venice, Italy; Museo de la Nacion, Lima, Peru; the Arlington Museum of Art, Texas; the Shanghai Art Museum, China; as well as the University Art Gallery-University of California-San Diego. His works are featured in the permanent collections of the Houston Museum of Fine Art, Texas; the African American Museum of Contemporary Art Dallas, TX; the Williamsburg Museum of 21st Century Art, New York; as well as the Museum of Fine Arts, Leipzig, Germany. Metoyer’s desire to find the universal religion that everyone is a part of is progressed through his investigations in Carl Jung Psychology and the M-Theory. His work relates to finding a universal freedom, where racism is non-existent, and equality and freedom are bountiful. He currently lives in London, and creates work all over the world on his travels.
