For over 27 years, G. R. N’Namdi Gallery has been internationally recognized as one of the most influential contemporary abstract art galleries.  The Gallery was established in 1981, by George N’Namdi in Detroit, Michigan, to increase awareness of abstract art and inspire a new generation of art collectors.

In 1996, the Gallery expanded to its second location in Chicago’s River North Art District.  By June 2002, both galleries had moved to new locations on East Forest Avenue in Detroit’s Cultural Center and on North Peoria Street in Chicago’s West Loop Gallery District. May 2004 celebrates the opening of its third location on West 26th Street in Chelsea, a burgeoning art district in Manhattan, New York.

Past and present exhibitions include McArthur Binion, Frank Bowling, Nanette Carter, Ed Clark, Mauro Machado, Vicente Pimentel, James Little, and modern historical artists such as Romare Bearden, Elizabeth Catlett, Herb Gentry, Vincent Smith, Lois Mailou Jones, Artis Lane, Hughie Lee Smith, and Bob Thompson.  Future exhibitions will include works from Beauford Delaney, Allie McGhee, Richard Mayhew, and Bernard Williams.

G. R. N’Namdi Galleries’ clientele include highly acclaimed museums such as: The Art Institute of Chicago; The Detroit Institute of the Arts; The Metropolitan Museum; The Studio Museum of Harlem; The Museum of Modern Art in New York; major private and corporate collectors; along with individuals interested in building a taste for abstraction.

The G. R. N’Namdi Galleries have made significant contributions towards educating the public about fine art through lectures and publications.  The galleries’ mission is that the collector, or potential collector, is educated about art and develops an appreciation for the historical and cultural value of the arts.

The G.R. N’Namdi Galleries are directed by George N’Namdi and his son, Jumaane N’Namdi.
